A little winter warmer
It’s the time of year where we go to work in the dark and we get home in the dark, we feel a little less spritely than we did over the summer months and seem to be surrounded by nasty colds that every neighbour and his dog seem to have!
I was in Paris over the weekend, hunting down the best macaroons I could find (the answer is Gérard Mulot in St Germain by the way, I already knew that actually but going back just confirmed it – seriously incredible. You simply have to try Noisette, Citron and Chocolat), discovering the most beautiful perfumeries the capital has to offer and walking, a lot of walking. During one of our many walks we found Bob’s kitchen (http://www.bobsjuicebar.com/kitchen.html) where we enjoyed a delicious vegan lunch. The pesky cold I mentioned before had been following me around for about a week at this stage so as we were leaving I opted for a hot ginger lemonade. What a great idea that was! It was so good I continued to say ‘Ohhhhh, uurrghhh, this is so amazing’ for about 20 minutes until my friend exclaimed, ‘Lily! Please stop making those noises!’. Anyway, the point of this is to tell you that this hot drink did me the world of good and so I wanted to share the recipe with you lovely people.
It may not be quite as good as the original from Bob’s, but my home-made replica is still pretty delicious! You will need:
- Two cups of water
- The juice of one lemon (and extra for decorating if you are an Instagram fanatic like we are)
- A thumb sized peice of root ginger, peeled and sliced
Three heaped table spoons of honey (homemade is preferable)
Then it is as simple as placing all the ingredients into a saucepan, bringing it to the boil, simmering it for ten minutes, straining it and serving it up (piping hot of course).
Perfect to pop into a thermo flask for work, your commute, pony club rallies, hunting, shooting or just to enjoy from the confort of your living room, or better still bed!
