Recycling and Reusing Leftover Candle Wax

January 29, 2020

It’s a sad day when your favourite candle comes to an end but make sure you don’t throw it away! If you are one to make the most out of your candles and are wondering what to do with the leftover wax after your wick has burnt down, we have some great ideas.

Ways to Reuse Scented Candle Wax

Make a Completely New Candle

Do you always buy the same fragrance? Even if you like to mix and match, keep all of the leftover wax from a number of candles and use it to make a whole new candle. Save money and recycle both the wax and the jar!

All you need is a new wick and to follow these instructions:

  • Remove the wax and the wick from the old candle jars you will be recycling with a spoon.
  • Wash out the old candle jars and add the new wicks into the jars.
  • Microwave the leftover wax; you can do this separately for different fragrances or melt them together if you want to create a unique combination. Check the wax at 1-minute intervals until it has completely melted.
  • Once melted, hold onto the wick with one hand and slowly pour the wave into the jar with the other, keeping the wick vertical and straight.
  • Refrigerate for about 10 minutes. Voila!

Make Some Unique Wax Melts

Leave a lovely, long-lasting aroma in your room by transforming your very own favourite fragrances into wax melts. With leftover wax, it’s never been easier to make your own discs! A similar method to making candles, just follow these simple instructions:

  • Clean out an ice cube tray or a small bun tin tray and set it aside.
  • Remove the wax from the old candle jars you will be recycling with a spoon (remove the wick and clean the jar out so you can also recycle this for another use).
  • Microwave the leftover wax, checking it at 1-minute intervals until it has completely melted.
  • Carefully pour the melted wax into the ice cube tray or small bun tin tray and place in the freezer for about 20 minutes.
  • Pop out the discs and there you have it!

Handmade Air Fresheners

To freshen up drawers, cupboards or wardrobes, you can create the perfect air fresheners from leftover wax. By removing it in the same way with a spoon, place the broken pieces of wax into a sock or nylon tights. Then tie them up and hang in your chosen space – Every time you open the door or drawer now, you will smell your favourite fragrance.

As you can see, there many ways to reuse leftover wax so you can keep your favourite Illumens fragrance lasting for even longer! Why not check out our other blog article on ways to reuse candle jars too?
